Mt. Olive Cemetery

On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, the Atlanta City Council's Community Development / Human Resources Committee voted to deny the removal of graves at Mt. Olive Cemetery!

An Application has been filed with the City of Atlanta by Community Renewal LLC to remove graves from historic Mt. Olive Cemetery at Frankie Allen Park.

On December 9, 2009, the Atlanta Urban Design Commission (“UDC”) voted to recommend that the Atlanta City Council deny the application filed by Brandon Marshall to remove Mt. Olive Cemetery.  On March 9, 2010, the Atlanta City Council's Community Development / Human Resources Committee voted unanimously to deny the application.  The issue will be voted on by the full City Council on Monday, March 15, 2010.

While the issue winds its way through Atlanta City Government, the lawsuit filed by Elon Osby, descendant of William Bagley, who is buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery, is still pending in Fulton County Superior Court.
